Pitch
Tuning that breathes
Let every note bend along its own path. Cents, not semitones: a chord shimmers and beats against itself without ever leaving the key.
MIDI effect plugin, in development
Turn any MIDI keyboard into an expressive MPE controller.
Make static chords move. Give every note its own pitch, pressure, timbre and pan, without owning an MPE keyboard.
The idea
Play a chord and MPE Drift turns every note into an independent moving voice. No drawing, no per note automation, no programming each voice. Just play, and let the movement happen.
Where it runs
A MIDI effect inside the host you already use. It sits between your keyboard and your MPE instrument.
What it is
Not one LFO for the whole patch. Every held note runs its own, with its own shape, depth and rate.
What it sends
Pitch, timbre, pressure and pan keep moving while you hold the note, each voice on its own channel.
One modulation over the whole chord is not enough. MPE Drift creates independent motion for every voice in it.
Four dimensions of motion
Five lanes run under every single note, each with its own shape, depth and rate. Four of them start on the destinations below; your host can carry all four, and MPE Drift is what generates them while you play.
Pitch
Let every note bend along its own path. Cents, not semitones: a chord shimmers and beats against itself without ever leaving the key.
Timbre
Continuously reshape the sound per note, so a filter, a wavetable position or a formant wanders on one voice while the others hold still.
Pressure
Evolving intensity on every voice, including keyboards with no aftertouch at all. This is the lane most synths react to hardest.
Pan
Spread a chord through space, one note at a time, and keep it moving there, so a block chord stops sounding like one object.
Together they turn static MIDI into continuous, per voice expression.
Drift mode
MPE Drift does not only modulate. It defines the relationship between the notes in your chord. Set per lane, not globally, because pitch moving as a block and pan moving as a block are two very different wishes.
MPE Drift turns an ordinary MIDI performance into evolving per note MPE expression, in real time, as you hold the keys.
From one gesture
Build chords from a single key with octave layers, scale lock, note spread and humanize. Then let every generated note drift independently: one gesture, several expressive voices.
The built in arpeggiator turns one held gesture into an evolving pattern where every step carries its own expression. Run it freely in hertz, or lock the movement to your host tempo.
Your setup
MPE Drift works from ordinary MIDI input. Play the keyboard you already own, MPE Drift creates the per note expression, and your MPE capable instrument receives it.
Under the hood
MPE channel management and voice allocation, a channel filter, a bend range up to 48 semitones, and the MPE setup message on demand. Works with MPE capable instruments and hosts.
Price
MPE Drift will cost 24,99 EUR, once. Before that comes a free week with the whole plugin, unlocked by a key the store mails to you. An activated computer re-confirms its key about once a day and keeps playing for ten days without a connection.
Both the trial and the purchase open with the first build. The price is fixed, the date is not, and the list below is where it goes out.
